The College of Southern Maryland bestowed Honorary Hawk status to former Oriolesโ third baseman Brooks Robinson, right, during the hall of famerโs visit to the Prince Frederick Campus April 7.
Presented by Michelle Ruble, CSM director of student life and athletics, and CSM mascot Charlie the Hawk, the autographed T-shirt will be included in the collegeโs time capsule that will be dedicated in the fall as part of CSMโs 50th anniversary celebrations.
Robinson spoke with College of Southern Maryland athletes, students and community members during his three-stop promotional tour.
Robinson shared favorite stories and whimsical insights of his 21 years in playing third base with the Baltimore Orioles with members of College of Southern Marylandโs baseball and softball teams during his tour on behalf of his Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the Atlantic League baseball team, which will celebrate its inaugural weekend May 2-4.

As the College of Southern Maryland celebrates its 50th anniversary, the CSM Foundation marks a major milestone in the collegeโs history of the college with its โCampaign for the Next 50 Years.โ The campaign is raising $5 million to fund an Institute for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (ISTEM), a Regional Center for Trades and Transportation Technologies; and initiatives to address local nursing and healthcare workforce shortages; focus on educational excellence, and endow a student scholarship fund for access and success.
