WALDORF, Md. — A 15-year-old student was arrested after being found in possession of a loaded 9mm “ghost gun” at St. Charles High School on April 29, 2026.

The incident began earlier that morning when a student reported to the School Resource Officer (SRO) that another student had been telling classmates they were carrying a gun, according to a letter sent to parents by Principal Tammika P. Little.

School administrators and the SRO immediately initiated an investigation. When staff attempted to search the student, the teen tried to push past an administrator and flee. The SRO quickly apprehended the student, and a loaded semi-automatic handgun was recovered from the student’s waistband.

Authorities identified the weapon as a Polymer 9mm handgun with no serial number, commonly referred to as a “ghost gun.” The firearm was equipped with a detachable magazine loaded with ammunition. Based on released images, the handgun appears to be a compact-style semi-automatic pistol with a black polymer frame.

Officials also reported the student was in possession of a vape device containing THC.

In the letter to families, Principal Little said the weapon was confiscated quickly and emphasized that there were no immediate safety concerns for students or staff. She also credited students who reported the situation, noting their actions helped administrators respond quickly and prevent a potentially dangerous situation.

The student is facing charges including possession of a dangerous weapon on school property, possession of a firearm by a minor, possession of cannabis, and additional related offenses. In accordance with Maryland law, the Charles County Department of Juvenile Services was contacted.

Authorities are continuing to investigate how the student obtained the firearm and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
