A large crowd enjoyed ample sunshine, spirited rugby and traditional highland games at Jefferson Patterson Park in Calvert County on Saturday. With the weather picture perfect and spring in full swing, hundreds milled around the 560-acre park all day.

Festival-goers enjoyed Celtic music and traditional foods while watching their favorite rugby players and teams. The rugby games were rough and fierce inspiring many in the large crowd to cheer and applaud for their favorites.

Others watched in delight as kilt-clad athletes competed throwing the stone, tossing the caber, throwing the weight and heavy hammer.

Even more festival patrons enjoyed stories from the attending clans and societies, watched country dancers, Scottish fiddlers and live entertainment on three different stages.

The Bay Net’s John Douglass was there to capture it all for you to enjoy. For more information on how to participate in the annual event, contact the Celtic Society of Southern Maryland by visiting www.cssm.org.
