Alexander C. Funes

Lexington Park, MD— On August 2, St.Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Roszell responded to Gloucester Court in Lexington Park for the report of a disturbance.

When Roszell arrived on the scene contact was made with the complainant, who was hiding in her bathroom with the door locked. She advised she was laying down in bed when her boyfriend came into the room, “with a kitchen knife in his hand,” according to charging documents.

She told police he was holding it in his hand with the blade pointed at her. She stated he had been drinking and started arguing with her. The defendant was identified as Alexander C. Funes, 38 of Lexington Park.

The complainant advised she had her phone in her hands but did not want to call the police for fear it would make Funes more agitated. She also told investigators she asked Funes what was going on and what was he doing?

Funes kept arguing with the woman and eventually she was able to talk Funes into putting the knife down. The woman then attempted to leave the room in an attempt to get away from Funes.

Funes grabbed her around the upper body trying to keep her in the room. The victim advised she then called the police and was able to get away. Roszell was able to make contact with Funes who was calm and appeared to be intoxicated.

Funes stated that there was no physical altercation, Funes also stated he did not bring a knife into the room and again there was no physical altercation.

Funes was placed under arrest and transported to the St.Mary’s County Detention Center, where he was charged with first-and second-degree assault.

Funes has a scheduled court appearance set for Aug. 19, at the St.Mary’s County District Courthouse. Funes faces a maximum jail sentence of 35 years and/or a maximum fine of $2,500.
