Chaptico, MD – State investigators are probing a fire that resulted in $15,000 damage to a 2011 GMC Terrain sport utility vehicle (SUV) in St. Maryโs County. According to an investigation notice from the Maryland State Fire Marshalโs Office, the fire, which was deemed the work of an arsonist, occurred Wednesday, June 14 at approximately 2:48 a.m. on Lacey Family Lane in Chaptico.
โSt. Maryโs County dispatch received a call for a vehicle fully engulfed with fire along the road,โ a deputy fire marshalโs report stated. โThe owner of the vehicle has been contacted in regards to the fire.โ

Five firefighters were dispatched to the scene and brought the blaze under control in 10 minutes. There were no injuries reported. Investigators determined the fire originated in the SUVโs interior passenger compartment.
No arrests have been made at this time. Anyone with information that might aid investigators is asked to call the Maryland State Fire Marshalโs Southern Regional Office at 443-550-6832.
