Chaptico, MD – State investigators are probing a fire that resulted in $15,000 damage to a 2011 GMC Terrain sport utility vehicle (SUV) in St. Maryโ€™s County. According to an investigation notice from the Maryland State Fire Marshalโ€™s Office, the fire, which was deemed the work of an arsonist, occurred Wednesday, June 14 at approximately 2:48 a.m. on Lacey Family Lane in Chaptico.

โ€œSt. Maryโ€™s County dispatch received a call for a vehicle fully engulfed with fire along the road,โ€ a deputy fire marshalโ€™s report stated. โ€œThe owner of the vehicle has been contacted in regards to the fire.โ€

Five firefighters were dispatched to the scene and brought the blaze under control in 10 minutes. There were no injuries reported. Investigators determined the fire originated in the SUVโ€™s interior passenger compartment.

No arrests have been made at this time. Anyone with information that might aid investigators is asked to call the Maryland State Fire Marshalโ€™s Southern Regional Office at 443-550-6832.
