Teen Airlifted After Severe Head-On Collision In Mechanicsville

MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — A serious two-vehicle collision on Wednesday evening resulted in one driver being airlifted to a trauma center due to severe injuries.

On November 6, 2024, at approximately 5:05 p.m., emergency crews were dispatched to the 38000 block of New Market Turner Road following reports of a head-on collision involving two vehicles, one of which had left the roadway and struck a tree.

First responders arrived to find a 2014 Toyota Camry with extensive damage and an injured 16-year-old male driver trapped inside. Firefighters quickly worked to stabilize the vehicle before beginning extrication efforts. Within approximately 30 minutes, the driver was freed from the wreckage. EMS on scene assessed his injuries and, due to their severity, requested a MEDEVAC.

Maryland State Police Trooper 7 helicopter arrived shortly after and airlifted the patient to Baltimore Shock Trauma Center for further treatment. The condition of the Camry driver is unavailable at this time.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the Toyota Camry, driven by the teenager, had been traveling northbound on New Market Turner Road when it veered off the roadway, colliding with a tree. A second vehicle, a 2012 Ford Mustang driven by Shannon Sampson, 54, of Mechanicsville, was traveling southbound at the time. Sampson reportedly attempted to avoid the collision but was struck by the Camry as it came to a halt. She did not require hospitalization, and there were no immediate reports on any further injuries.
