Dallas Terry
Scotland, MD — Maryland deputy state fire marshals have arrested a Scotland teen for setting fire to the home in which he and his family resided. Dallas Terry, 18, was taken into custody May 29 at the Washington, DC detention center.
An investigation into the cause of the fire determined that it had been intentionally set after an altercation with his father and brother. The fire occurred on May 12, 2015 just before 5 p.m. Investigators from the Maryland State Fire Marshalโs Office determined that an ignitable liquid had been poured throughout the kitchen of the home and set on fire. The fire caused over $125,000 in damages to the three-story, single-family home and its contents. The family was displaced as a result of the fire.
Numerous firefighters responded to the scene and controlled the fire in approximately fifteen minutes without injury. Deputies determined that Terry had an altercation with his father which involved him using several knives. After his father and brother fled the home, Terry then set the fire while a female occupant was still in the upper floor of the home.
Terry has been charged with first-degree arson, first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, first- and second-degree malicious burning, and arson threat. He was a juvenile at the time of the fire; that has been waived to adult status as a result of the charges.
Terry is currently being held at the St. Maryโs County Detention Center pending a bond review hearing at this time. The St. Maryโs County Sheriffโs Office assisted in the investigation.
