Leonardtown, MD— On May 4, Maryland State Police (MSP) Trooper Mulhearn responded to Lawrence Avenue in Leonardtown for the report of an assault.ย 

Mulhearn made contact with the victim who advised she got into a verbal argument with her grandson who no longer lives at her residence but frequently comes and goes.ย 

The defendant was identified as Travon M. Courtney, 18 of Leonardtown. The victim advised Courtney came to her home the night before and broke into the residence but she did not report it nor did she want to press charges.ย 

Courtney came to the home to get some clothes he had there when a verbal argument started. The victim told Courtney to leave the residence, and Courtney stated. “[expletive] no,” according to charging documents.ย 

The victim told the trooper she grabbed her cell phone to call the police and Courtney grabbed the phone from her hand and shoved her back on her left shoulder. Courtney then walked to the kitchen and pulled out a six-inch steak knife.ย 

Courtney allegedly told the victim, “I will kill you bitch and I will cut your ass,” according to charging documents. The victim ran to her bedroom. locked the door and called the police.ย 

The victim also stated that Courtney told her he would beat her and slash the tires on her truck. Courtney left the scene with the knife still in his possession.ย 

At the time of this crime Courtney was a minor, however, on June 22, Randy Hicks, a Juvenile Service coordinator, contacted Sgt.Bowling of the MSP, advising him to charge Courtney as an adult with first-and second-degree assault.ย 

At this time Courtney does not have a hearing date set in District Court.

Courtney faces a maximum jail sentence of 35 years and/or a maximum fine of $2,500.ย
