On July 28, 2010 at 12:41 a.m., Trooper First Class Dawson attempted to stop a vehicle for traffic violations on Bay Avenue at 3rd St. in North Beach.
The driver refused to stop and attempted to elude the Trooper. The suspect’s vehicle continued at high speeds on Route 261 into Anne Arundel County. On Lake Shore Drive, the suspect’s vehicle collided with the Trooper’s cruiser. Both vehicles came to a stop in the roadway and the driver, Cecil M. Nelson, Jr., 18 of Sunderland, was arrested.
Investigation revealed that the vehicle had been taken without authorization from the owner, a family member. Stolen tags had been placed on the vehicle by Nelson and he was in possession of Marijuana when arrested.
Nelson was charged with numerous traffic violations, possession of Marijuana, Theft Under $100 and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. He was incarcerated at the Calvert County Detention Center.
No one was injured in the incident.
