La Plata, MD – The Charles County Sheriff’s Office reported Saturday, Nov. 26 that members of the agency’s Traffic Operations Unit are investigating a crash that killed a woman Thanksgiving evening.

On Thursday, Nov. 24 at 6:30 p.m., the driver of a Chevy Equinox failed to yield the right of way while attempting to make a left turn from westbound Billingsley Road onto southbound St Charles Parkway. Her vehicle was struck by a Mercedes which was traveling east on Billingsley Road.

Sherry Bunnell Three people in the Equinox were seriously injured: The driver–a 46-year-old woman, and a front seat passenger–were flown to a hospital where the passenger, Sherry Lynn Bunnell, 46 of Mechanicsville (pictured, right), died the following day. A woman in the backseat of the Equinox was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. The driver of the Mercedes, a 43-year-old male from Waldorf, was treated on the scene.

According to Brinsfield Funeral Home, Bunnell was employed as a pharmacy technician at Giant in California and was attending the College of Southern Maryland. She is survived by her husband and son.
