SOUTHERN MARYLAND A busy week of events is lined up across Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s counties as spring activities continue through May 1, 2025. From food truck festivals and plant sales to live music, historic cruises, and community celebrations, there are plenty of ways to get involved and enjoy the season. Whether you’re looking for family outings, live entertainment, educational programs, or local shopping opportunities, there’s something happening in every part of Southern Maryland.

CALVERT COUNTY

Rooftop Car Cruize Night by the Bay on April 25 (4 to 8 pm), located at Rod ‘N’ Reel Resort, 4160 Mears Ave, Chesapeake Beach, MD – Enjoy stylish cars, scenic views, and a relaxed atmosphere every Friday on the rooftop of Rod ‘N’ Reel Resort. Held weekly through October. Weather permitting. Free admission.

Pop-in with Poppie on April  26 (1:30 to 2:30 pm), located at Calvert Marine Museum, 14200 Solomons Island Road S, Solomons, MD – Meet “Poppie” the opossum in the museum lobby and learn about this fascinating animal from museum interpreters. Included with museum admission.

COSMIC Symphony’s Season Finale Titled A Night On Broadway on April 26 (3 to 5 pm), located at Chesapeake Church, 6201 Solomons Island Road, Huntingtown, MD – COSMIC Symphony and The Newtowne Players are coming together for COSMIC’s thrilling season finale concert titled A Night on Broadway. This performance will include selections from Wicked, The Phantom of the Opera, Chicago, and much more! COSMIC is pleased to present this concert free of charge.

Celtic Festival of Southern Maryland on April 26 (10 am to 6 pm), located at Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum, 10515 Mackall Road, Saint Leonard, MD – Celebrate the heritage of the seven Celtic nations with live music from BarleyJuice, Piper Jones, Pohemia, and more. Enjoy food, cultural exhibits, and a new whiskey tasting experience. Rain or shine. Tickets: $5–$30. More info here.

Fairy & Gnome Home Festival on April 27 (11 am to 4 pm), located at Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center, 13470 Dowell Road, Solomons, MD – The most magical day in Southern Maryland! Like a Renaissance Festival right in your backyard! Dress up in your favorite fantasy finery and join us for the most fantastical day of the year! Explore the Wondrous Woods, shop the enchanted marketplace, search for over 180 fairy houses, meet whimsical characters and wandering performers, make enchanting arts and crafts, engage in imaginative play, enjoy nature explorations, adorable animal encounters, UNICORN RIDES, and more. Food and drink will be available. Tickets required.

Beyond the Displays: Artifact Stories on April 27 (1:30 to 2:30 pm), located at Calvert Marine Museum, 14200 Solomons Island Road S, Solomons, MD – Discover the rich stories behind museum artifacts including WWII-era items, ship name boards, and more in this weekly guided experience. Included with museum admission.

Migratory Bird Hike on April 29 (9 to 11 am), located at Battle Creek Cypress Swamp, Prince Frederick, MD – Celebrate spring migration season with a guided hike through the park in search of warblers and other bird species. Adults and children ages 10 and up are welcome to learn bird identification by sight and sound. Walk-ins allowed, but registration preferred by April 28. Free for Society members; $8 per family for nonmembers.

Science for Community Seminar – UMCES CBL on April 29 (7 to 8 pm), located at UMCES Chesapeake Biological Laboratory, 142 Williams Street, Solomons, MD – Join us as we celebrate a remarkable milestone, the 100th anniversary of CBL, the oldest state supported marine lab on the East Coast and the founding laboratory of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES). Talks will highlight our history and 100-year legacy in groundbreaking environmental research, education and public service. When: Tuesdays from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. April 8 – May 6, 2025. CHARLES COUNTY

Food Truck Festival and Farmers Market on April 26 (12 to 5 pm), located at Serenity Farm at Benedict, 6932 Serenity Farm Road, Benedict, MD – Enjoy a day of food, fun, and community with 10 food trucks, 14 local vendors, live music, and family-friendly farm activities. Rain or shine. Leashed animals welcome. $10 parking fee per vehicle.

Toy and Comic Expo on April 26 (9 am to 5 pm), located at Hughesville Bargain Barn, 8275 Old Leonardtown Rd, Hughesville, MD – Celebrate your favorite fandoms at this first annual expo featuring collectibles, comics, pop culture items, and more. Free admission. 

Mermaids at the Pool on April 26 (11 am to 12:30 pm), located at Donald M. Wade Aquatic Center, 5305 Piney Church Road, Waldorf, MD – Dive into a magical afternoon of swimming, mermaid fun, photo ops, and water activities. Bring your favorite swimsuit or mermaid fins! Parents may swim with their child at no extra charge. $15 per child.

Celebrate La Plata on April 26 (12 pm to 4 pm), located at La Plata Town Hall, 305 Queen Anne Street, La Plata, MD – Join the community for a free spring festival packed with live music, vendors, inflatable games, art activities, and line dancing lessons. Free admission.

Trail Ride Day Party on April 26 (3 pm to 9 pm), located at 1302 Smallwood Drive, Waldorf, MD – Dance your heart out at the ultimate DMV trail ride party hosted by Blk & Lit Candle Bar, featuring over 25 line dances, live instruction from LaShea Iyonna, and music by JD the DJ. Enjoy photo booths, great vibes, and themed drinks. Tickets: $35–$50 general admission; $250–$350 VIP table packages.

So You Got Talent? 2 on April 26 (5 to 8 pm), located at St. Charles High School, 5305 Piney Church Road, Waldorf, MD – An all-abilities talent show hosted by Journey to Faith Ministries, open to individuals with or without autism or special needs. Enjoy an inspiring evening of performances in singing, rapping, dancing, comedy, and musical instruments. Tickets available on Eventbrite.

Taste of Southern Maryland 2025 on April 27 (11 am to 5 pm), located at the Maryland Veterans Museum at Patriot Park, 11000 Crain Hwy, Newburg, MD – Celebrate the best of Southern Maryland’s local businesses at this third annual festival. Enjoy food, shopping, and community fun while supporting the Maryland Veterans Museum. Rain date is May 4. Tickets required ($10; free for children 12 & under; non-refundable donation).

The Impact of Federal Terminations on Charles County MD on May 1 (7 to 9 pm), located at Theodore G. Davis Middle School, 2495 David Road, Waldorf, MD – Join community members and leaders for an important discussion on how recent federal terminations are affecting Charles County. Explore economic, social, and cultural impacts, and learn about local solutions and support resources. Free admission.

SMTMD HomeSpun CoffeeHouse Open Mic on April 25 (7 to 9:30 pm), located at Christ Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 37497 Zach Fowler Road, Chaptico, MD – Acoustic musicians of all skill levels are welcome to perform their favorite tunes or enjoy a night out listening to some local talent. Annual Historic Sotterley Garden Guild Plant Sale on April 26 (9 am to 2 pm) and April 27 (12:00 PM to 3:00 PM), located at Historic Sotterley, 44300 Sotterley Ln, Hollywood, MD – Shop a variety of plants nurtured by the Sotterley Garden Guild and support the upkeep of the site’s Colonial Revival Gardens. Gardeners will be on hand to answer questions and offer advice. Free admission; plant purchases available.

Earth Day at Summerseat Farm on April 26 (10 am to 2 pm), located at Summerseat Farm, 26655 Three Notch Road, Mechanicsville, MD – Celebrate Earth Day with local environmental organizations, unique craft vendors, hayrides, guided nature walks, live music, and delicious local food. Fun for all ages in a beautiful outdoor setting. Donations appreciated.

Family Roller Skate on April 27 (2 to 5 pm), located at Leonard Hall Recreation Center, 23150 Leonard Hall Drive, Leonardtown, MD – The indoor arena provides the perfect space for users of all abilities to join in the fun with music and fun! Entrance fee can be paid in advance online.

Dinner & A Cruise Series @ St. Clements Island Museum on April 27 (3 pm), located at St. Clement’s Island Museum, 38370 Point Breeze Road, Coltons Point, MD – Set sail for an exclusive themed evening on the Potomac featuring historical presentations, dinner and drinks at Morris Point Restaurant, and dessert.
