First Fossil Friday on February 7 (1 pm to 4:30 pm), located at Calvert Marine Museum, 14200 Solomons Island Rd S, Solomons, MD – Fossil hunters, bring your fossil finds from Calvert Cliffs or other local areas from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. to be identified! This service is provided for free; however, admission fees apply for access to CMM exhibits.
3rd Annual Hot for Chocolate 5K on February 8 (8 am), located at Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum, 10515 Mackall Rd, Saint Leonard, MD – Come and warm up with us at the Calvert County Community Partners Hot for Chocolate 5K! This is a family-friendly, fun-filled race through Jefferson Patterson Park followed by a festive finish-line festival that includes music, food, and hot chocolate! The race beneficiaries are Project ECHO and the Friends of Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum. Project ECHO provides hope for the homeless, with emergency shelter and supportive housing for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Calvert County. The Friends of Jefferson Patterson Park support educational programming and free events such as Children’s Day on the Farm. Tickets required.
Valentine’s Hike for Your Heart Unguided Hikes on February 8 (8 am to 5 pm), located at American Chestnut Land Trust (all trails): North Side Trailhead, 676 Double Oak Rd, Prince Frederick, MD and South Side Trailhead, 1985 Scientists Cliffs Rd, Port Republic, MD – Unguided hike. Look for Valentines-themed seed paper hearts and painted rocks along all trails.
Dee of St. Mary’s Dockside Tour on February 8 (10 am to 4 pm), located at Calvert Marine Museum, 14200 Solomons Island Road S, Solomons, MD – Step aboard the museum’s sailing skipjack for an up-close tour of her 56 ft. deck with crew members during the off-season. Learn how watermen dredge for oysters, hoist the sails, and navigate the waterways of the Chesapeake. Included with museum admission.
Oscar Guessing Party on February 8 (1 to 9 pm), located at Mully’s Brewery, 141 Schooner Ln, Ste 15, Prince Frederick, MD – Get your predictions in before the big day! Sure, the Oscars aren’t until March 2, but take some time to place your predictions & discuss the films with other movie buffs, all with a pint of Mully’s! Every second Tuesday of the month, the CMM Education team will feature an animal in the museum lobby that is not normally on display.
