SOUTHERN MARYLAND — Summer is in full swing across Southern Maryland. From solstice festivals and Juneteenth celebrations to outdoor movies, live music and family workshops, there’s something happening in every corner of Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s counties this week. Whether you’re looking to cool off with the kids, dance under the stars or support local artists, the list covers it all. Here’s a roundup of local events happening June 20–26.

CALVERT COUNTY

60s Themed Cruise on June 20 (6:30 to 8:30 p.m.), located at Solomons Island, 14443 Solomons Island Rd, Solomons, MD 20688 – Set sail for a groovy night on the water with tiki drinks, ‘60s music, and retro vibes on this themed cruise. Costumes encouraged! Tickets required.

Mud Day! on June 21 (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.), located at Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center, 13470 Dowell Road, Solomons, MD – Dive into a day of muddy fun with hands-on nature play, soil science, art activities, and creative exploration. Make mud pies, paint with mud, visit the mud kitchen, and discover the creatures that live in the dirt. Rinse-off stations on-site. Food vendors available. Tickets required.

Pet Adoption Event at Century 21 New Millennium on June 21 (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.) located at Century 21 New Millennium (back patio), 862 Costley Way, Prince Frederick, MD 20678 – Meet adoptable dogs from the Humane Society of Calvert County, enjoy raffles, 50/50 tickets, and connect with local realtors supporting a great cause. Free admission.

Saturday at the Vineyard & Biergarten on June 21 (12 to 10 p.m.), located at Running Hare Vineyard, 150 Adelina Rd, Prince Frederick, MD 20678 – Enjoy wine, craft beer, slushees, sangria, and live music featuring Run Catch Rain (12:30–4:30 p.m.) and Justin Trawick Trio (6–9 p.m.). Food trucks include Hungry Hare and Taste of the Tides. Free admission.

Music Bingo: One Hit Wonders on June 21 (4 to 6 p.m.), located at Mully’s Brewery, 141 Schooner Ln, Ste 15, Prince Frederick, MD 20678 – Enjoy a fun, music-filled afternoon identifying iconic one-hit wonders for a chance to win prizes with every bingo. Free admission.

Toy Boat Building on June 21 (1 to 4 p.m.), located at Calvert Marine Museum, Corbin Nature Pavilion, 14200 Solomons Island Rd S, Solomons, MD 20688 – Kids ages 5+ can design and build their own wooden toy boats; materials are limited and it’s first-come, first-served. Included with museum admission; $2 donation per boat requested. 

Kickoff to Summer Dance Party with DJ Magic Rick on June 21 (9 p.m. to close,),  located at O’Gannigans, 98 Solomons Island Rd S, Prince Frederick, MD 20678 – Celebrate the start of summer with a high-energy dance party featuring DJ Magic Rick, giveaways, and shot specials all night long. Free admission.

Pride Event: Exploring LGBT+ History in Rural Maryland on June 23 (5 to 7 p.m.), located at Calvert Library – Prince Frederick, 850 Costley Way, Prince Frederick, MD 20678 – An educational presentation and discussion on LGBT+ history in rural Maryland communities, featuring local speakers and historical insights. Free admission.

Skate Party & Art Unveiling on June 25 (6 to 8 p.m.),  located at Dunkirk District Skate Park, 10750 Southern Maryland Blvd, Dunkirk, MD 20754 – Celebrate new community-created skatepark art by Calvert County Public School students and teachers, and enjoy an evening of skating and community fun. Free admission.

Summer Fun: Magician Brian Curry on June 26 (10 to 11 a.m.), located at Dunkirk Fire Department Event Hall, 3170 West Ward Rd, Dunkirk, MD 20754 – Enjoy a magical and educational performance with the “Magical Math Tour,” where kids will experience math brought to life through illusions, puzzles, and interactive fun. Free admission.

Rock the Dock: Jukebox Heroes on June 26 (7 to 10 p.m.), located at Rod ‘N’ Reel Resort: The Bandshell, 4160 Mears Ave, Chesapeake Beach, MD 20732 – Experience the top Foreigner tribute band in the U.S. with powerful vocals, timeless hits, and an electrifying stage show that brings classic rock to life. Ticket required.

Friday Night Summer Concert: Kev Powe Thang on June 20 (7 to 9 p.m.), located at La Plata Town Hall, 305 Queen Anne St, La Plata, MD 20646 – Kick off the week with live music under the stars on the Town Hall lawn as part of the free summer concert series. Free admission. 

Lowe’s Kids Workshop: Door Knocker on June 21 (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.), located at Lowe’s Home Improvement, 2525 Crain Hwy, Waldorf, MD 20601 – Kids can enjoy a hands-on experience building their own door knocker during this free monthly workshop. Free admission

1st Annual Jazz & Wine Fest on June 21 (3 to 7 p.m.), located at The Village Green Park, 100 Walter Thomas Road, Indian Head, MD – JOIN US for great jazz, fine wine, and community celebration. Free parking. Bring your lawn chair. No tents or outside food or drink. Tickets required.

Southern Maryland Solstice Fest on June 21 (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.), located at Warriors Wellness Farm, 10970 Earnshaw Ln, La Plata, MD 20646 – Celebrate the summer solstice with a full day of yoga, movement, wellness workshops, and community connection. Activities include hourly fitness sessions, child-friendly classes, and mindful experiences. Ticket required.

Southern Maryland House of Nerf: June Blaster Battle on June 21 (11 a.m. to 5 p.m.), located at Charles County Fairgrounds, 8440 Fairground Rd, La Plata, MD 20646 – Join the monthly foam-flinging showdown with competitive and casual game modes for ages 7 and up. Blasters and eye protection required; ammo provided. Ticket required.

All American Harley-Davidson 8th Annual Antique Bike Show on June 21 (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.), located at All American Harley-Davidson, 8126 Old Leonardtown Rd, Hughesville, MD 20637 – Check out classic motorcycles including shovelhead Harleys and pre-1979 models, with live music by The Nighthawks and a day full of celebration. Free for spectators.

6th Annual Juneteenth Freedom Day on June 21 (1 to 6 p.m.), located at Shops at Waldorf Center, 2952 Festival Way, Waldorf, MD 20601 – Celebrate Juneteenth with live music, African drumming, poetry, black art, food vendors, and a tribute to ancestors. Hosted by the Charles County Juneteenth Committee to support student scholarships. Free admission.

Summer Sunset Cinema: Featuring Sonic 3 on June 21 (Gates open at 7 p.m., movie begins at 8:30 p.m. or dusk), located at The Shops at Waldorf Center, 2952 Festival Way, Waldorf, MD 20601 – Enjoy a family-friendly outdoor movie night under the stars. Bring chairs and settle in for an action-packed showing of Sonic 3. Free admission.

Juneteenth Celebration at Chapman State Park on June 22 (1 to 4 p.m.), located at Mount Aventine, Chapman State Park, 3452 Ferry Place, Indian Head, MD 20640 – Celebrate freedom and heritage with a Libation Ceremony by Kathy English Holt, live music by Abasi Johnson and More Than A Drum, poetry, a creative “Words to the Ancestors” activity with Kianga Jianaki of Kianga Art, and a ceremonial procession to Mount Aventine. Free admission.

Walk Charles County: Port Tobacco River Park on June 22 (10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.), located at Port Tobacco River Park, Port Tobacco, MD 20677 – Join Healthy Charles County for a guided walk-and-talk exploring the park’s history, natural features, and resident bald eagles, Hope and Chandler. Free admission.

2025 Kids’ Summer Show: The Great Zucchini on June 24 (10 to 11 a.m.), located on the West Lawn of La Plata Town Hall, 305 Queen Anne St, La Plata, MD 20646 – Enjoy a fun-filled morning with The Great Zucchini, a beloved children’s entertainer known for magic, comedy, and interactive fun. Bring chairs or blankets and enjoy the splash pad after the show. Free admission.

ST. MARY’S COUNTY

Juneteenth Weekend Tours at Historic Sotterley from June 20–23 (Multiple Times), located at Historic Sotterley, 44300 Sotterley Ln, Hollywood, MD – In honor of Juneteenth, visitors are invited to take guided tours that focus on stories of strength, resistance, and resilience among the enslaved community at Sotterley. Learn how individuals maintained their identity, built families, and navigated life before and after emancipation. Tour times: Thursday–Saturday at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 2:00 p.m.; Sunday at 12:30 and 2:00 p.m. Registration Encouraged.

Friday Summer Skate on June 21 (2 to 4 p.m.), located at Leonard Hall Recreation Center, 23145 Leonard Hall Dr, Leonardtown, MD 20650 – Enjoy an afternoon of roller skating, music, and themed fun as part of the weekly summer skate series. $5.00 entry; $2.50 skate rentals (or bring your own).

Mulberry Music Festival on June 20 (5 p.m. gates, 6 p.m. showtime), located at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, 47645 College Drive, St. Mary’s City, MD – Celebrate Juneteenth weekend with a free outdoor music festival featuring Dumpstaphunk, Carly Harvey, and the Kelly Bell Band. Enjoy an evening of blues, funk, R&B, and jazz, plus food trucks, vendors, and fireworks after the show. Free admission.

From Legacy to Leadership: Answering the Call on June 22 (2 p.m.), located at Historic Sotterley, 44300 Sotterley Ln, Hollywood, MD – Celebrate a historic milestone as Ms. Gwendoline Bankins becomes the first descendant of the enslaved at Historic Sotterley—and in the State of Maryland—to be elected President of the Board of Trustees. The afternoon features a welcoming reception, open house tours, historical presentations, wagon rides, and live entertainment. A powerful tribute to truth, progress, and shared history. Sacred Heart Church Annual June Drive-Thru Dinner on June 22, 2025 (11 a.m. until sold out), located at Sacred Heart Parish Hall, 23080 Maddox Road, Bushwood, MD – Enjoy a classic Southern Maryland drive-thru dinner featuring crab cakes, country ham, fried chicken, and traditional sides like potato salad, green beans, and pickled beets. SMTMD HomeSpun CoffeeHouse Open Mic on June 27 (7 to 9:30 p.m.), located at Christ Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 37497 Zach Fowler Road, Chaptico, MD – Acoustic musicians of all skill levels are welcome to perform their favorite tunes or enjoy a night out listening to some local talent.
