
CALLAWAY, Md. — Emergency crews responded Sunday evening to a serious crash on Point Lookout Road near Lily Lane in Callaway that left multiple people injured and temporarily closed the roadway.
Shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 5, 2025, firefighters, EMS units, and police arrived to find a rear-end collision involving two vehicles, with one person trapped inside. Members of the Second District Volunteer Fire Department’s Squad 6 quickly worked to free the occupant by removing the vehicle’s doors.
Four ambulances were dispatched to the scene. One patient was flown by Maryland State Police Aviation Command, Trooper 2 to the UM Capital Region Trauma Center. Two others were taken by ground to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital, while a fourth person was evaluated and released to family members.
Firefighters established a landing zone for the medevac helicopter at the Redeeming Grace Baptist Church parking lot.
The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the crash.
