A St. Maryโ€™s countian whose family has a deep political roots, has filed to run for county commissioner from the First Commisisoner District in the Republican Primary. Tom Jarboeโ€™s father, the late Dr. J. Patrick Jarboe and his cousin, the late Robert Jarboe, both served as county commissioner.

On his Facebook page in announcing his candidacy, Jarboe wrote: โ€œTom Jarboe is native born of St. Maryโ€™s County. He resides in St. Maryโ€™s City and is married to Shannon Jarboe and father of three sons (Nick, Christian and Luke). He is son of the late Dr. James Patrick and Margaret Elizabeth Jarboe (and cousin of the late Commissioner Robert Jarboe). Tom attended Little Flower School in Great Mills for 8 years and then graduated from St. Maryโ€™s Ryken in 1987.ย He obtained a Masterโ€™s of Science degree in International Business from the University of Maryland. Tom is a veteran of the United States Coast Guard and co-owner of Technology Security Associates, Inc., a defense contractor located locally in California, MD. Tom is seeking the Commissioner position for District 1. Given Tomโ€™s diverse background as a local citizen of St. Maryโ€™s County (born and raised here), Coast Guard veteran status, volunteer of multiple non-profit agencies in our community and local business owner of a Defense Contracting Company, Tom is well-rounded and experienced to lead our county as a commissioner.โ€

The First Commissioner District seat is currently held by Republican Cynthia Jones. She is widely believed to be not seeking reelection to the commissioner position and instead running for the State Senate seat held by Democrat Roy Dyson. Steve Waugh is also running as a Republic candidate in that race. Waugh, a Calvert County resident, was defeated by Dyson in the last election.
