Governor Harry W. Nice Memorial Bridge Closures Extended Due To Inclement Weather
WHAT: Weather permitting, one lane of the Harry W. Nice Memorial Bridge (US 301) will be closed to traffic temporarily. Traffic will alternate in the open lane during these closures.
WHEN: Thursday, Jan. 8, Monday, Jan. 12 through Thursday, Jan. 15 and Monday, Jan. 26 through Thursday, Jan. 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
Please note: All lanes will be open Saturday, Jan. 17 through Wednesday, Jan. 21 for Inauguration activities.
WHY: Crews are completing the installation of fiber optic cable across the bridge.
Trucks greater than 11-feet wide will not be permitted to cross the bridge during these times. Every effort will be made to cross all vehicles exceeding 11 feet in width from 8 to 8:30 a.m. and from 3 to 3:15 p.m.
Drivers of vehicles exceeding the width restriction must call (301) 259-4444 to obtain approval and schedule an escort appointment time. Calls must be made 24 hours prior to arrival at the bridge and will only be accepted between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
The Authority offers the following tips to motorists traveling through work zones:
• Slow Down – Obey posted speed limits.
• Be Courteous – Keep a safe distance between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you.
• Pay Attention to Work Zone Signs, Equipment and Flaggers – They help drivers move safely.
• Avoid Distracted Driving – Devote your full attention to the road.
