Andre Stephen Broussard
Lusby, MD – A Calvert County man is facing 21 years in jail and the payment of a fine in excess of $25,000 as a result of drug charges that were filed against him last month.
According to documents on file in District Court of Maryland for Calvert County, a sheriff’s deputy charged the suspect—identified as Andre Stephen Broussard, 20 of Lusby—following a traffic stop Feb. 17 on Southern Connector Boulevard. The officer, Deputy S. Rediker, stated in court documents that he began following Broussard’s 2010 Toyota Corolla on northbound Route 2/4 around 11:26 p.m. when he (Rediker) noticed the vehicle’s left stoplight was not operating.
After the deputy detected the smell of marijuana coming Broussard’s Corolla, the driver was asked to get out of his car. “I then asked Broussard if there were any marijuana in the vehicle,” Rediker stated. “Broussard stated there wasn’t and he just smoked it in the vehicle earlier in the day.”
When the deputy stated he intended to search the vehicle to make a determination, “Broussard advised that I might find a small amount in the car,” Rediker stated in court documents.
The search revealed a large plastic bag containing a large quantity of raw marijuana in the glove compartment and cigar joint wrappers on the floor. When asked, Broussard told the deputy he had “14 grams of weed” in the vehicle. A search of Broussard’s person yielded a digital scale, a bog of rolling papers and $51 cash.
Broussard was charged with controlled dangerous substance (CDS) possession with intent to distribute, CDS possession of marijuana and CDS possession of paraphernalia. He was released on his own recognizance and is awaiting trial on the charges in District Court April 1.
