HOLLYWOOD, Md. — Emergency crews responded to a serious crash Friday morning after a truck veered off Sotterley Road and struck a utility pole, bringing down power lines and trapping the driver inside.

The crash, reported around 10:20 a.m. on March 14, 2025, at the intersection with Steer Horn Neck Road, prompted a swift response from fire and rescue teams. Upon arrival, first responders found the vehicle off the roadway with live wires strewn across the scene.

Firefighters worked quickly to stabilize the truck before extricating the driver, who remained trapped inside for nearly 30 minutes. Emergency medical personnel assessed the victim’s injuries and determined the need for an airlift. The driver was transported by ambulance to St. Mary’s Airport, where Maryland State Police Trooper 7 flew the patient to an area trauma center for treatment.

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) was dispatched to repair the damaged pole and restore service in the area.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
