Police report two La Plata men traveling north on a motorcycle struck the rear of a tractor trailerย at a signalย light on northbound U.S. Route 301 Monday morning, Sept. 16.

According to the Maryland State Police in La Plata, both Tyrone Anthony Matthews Jr. 22, and Ian Gregory Armstrong, 24, were ejected from the 1999 Yamaha XZF-R1 and both men were pronounced dead at the scene. Matthews had been operating the cycle and investigators believe he failed to control the bikeโ€™s speed in order to avoid the collision, which occurred at approximately 2:16 a.m. north of the Route 227 intersection with Route 301 in White Plains.

Police reported both men were wearing safety equipment at the time of the crash.

The tractor trailer was being driven by a 56-year-old Virginia man who was not injured in the collision.
