Two Flown Out After Serious Crash On Port Tobacco Road; One Ejected, One Trapped

WELCOME, Md. — Emergency crews responded on Monday, Oct. 6, 2025, to a serious two-vehicle crash on Port Tobacco Road near Gunston Road that left one person ejected and another trapped inside a pickup truck.

The collision was reported around 5:18 p.m. and involved two large pickup trucks. Fire and rescue crews from across Charles County were dispatched for an extrication operation after finding one victim pinned with lower-body entrapment. Command requested the pre-launch of two medical helicopters.

Both victims were conscious when first responders arrived. A 19-year-old man was reported to be in stable condition, while a 45-year-old man sustained more serious injuries.

U.S. Park Police Eagle 2 landed near Wedding Drive to transport one of the patients to MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., while Maryland State Police Aviation Command, Trooper 2 landed at an alternate site near the Port Tobacco fire tower to transport the second patient to UM Capital Region Medical Center in Largo.

Rescuers worked for more than 30 minutes before freeing the trapped individual shortly before 6 p.m.

As of Monday evening, Port Tobacco Road remained closed in both directions at Gunston Road while emergency crews and investigators remained on scene.

The Charles County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the crash.
