At approximately 6:40 PM, on Thursday, November 3, two vehicles collided at southboundย Rt. 2-4 at Traskerโs Boulevard, Prince Frederick.ย Five people were injured in the collission, and two were flown to hospital via helicopter.
Investigation revealed that Matthew B. Finlay (19, of Prince Frederick,) was operating his 1993 Honda Civic northbound on MD Rt. 2-4 and intended to turn left onto Traskerโs Boulevard. Finlay had a green signal, but was required to yield to southbound traffic.ย Mr. Finlay failed to yield to a 2004 Jeep Cherokee being operated by Thomas L. Phelps (57, of Huntingtown).
Mr. Phelps and his wife Rosemary (58, of Huntingtown,) sustained incapacitating injuries and were transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital.ย Mr. Finlay sustained injuries and was treated by EMS personnel.ย Two passengers in Mr. Finlayโs Honda also sustained incapacitating injuries. ย ย Mr. Travis L. Bright (20, of Prince Frederick) was a front seat passenger and Mr. James A. Mayers (20, of Huntingtown,) was in the back seat. ย Both were flown by Maryland State Police helicopterย to the Prince Georgeโs Hospital (Shock Trauma).ย As of this writing, both remain at that medical facility with non-life threatening injuries.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel responded from the Prince Frederick Rescue Squad, the Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department, and the North Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad.ย
Mr. Finlay was charged with failing to yield to Mr. Phelpsโ jeep while making a left turn.ย There was no evidence of alcohol or drug impairment.
