UPDATE: 12/05/13, 4:45 p.m. — The victim, identified as Bridgette Faye Hayden, had been involved in an argument over the phone with her boyfriend identified as Patrick James Hutching, 31, of Leonardtown. After the phone conversation, Hutching went to Hayden’s residence, which is when the crime occurred. He later called a witness indicating he had seriously harmed Hayden. The witness responded to Hayden’s residence and found her outside on the ground bleeding badly from a severe laceration to her neck. No additional victims were located and Hutching was no longer on the scene.
Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 7 was unable to fly due to bad weather. Therefore, Hayden was initially transported to MEDSTAR St. Mary’s Hospital and stabilized. She was then transported to a nearby trauma center and underwent emergency surgery. Her prognosis is unknown at this time.
Hutching was located at a relative’s residence in Calvert County, Maryland. He was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. He was charged with Attempted 1st Degree Murder, 1st Degree Assault, 2nd Degree Assault.
On November 13, 2013, Hutching was charged with assaulting Hayden and had been released on bond on November 17th .
Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division continue their investigation into this crime and would like to thank the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance. Additional details will be released as they are developed.
UPDATE:
On December 5, 2013 at 2:09AM, deputies responded to a residence for a reported assault. On arrival, they located the 46 year old female victim on the ground outside of the residence with a severe laceration to her neck.
Immediate life-saving efforts were initiated until Emergency Medical Service personnel arrived. The victim was transported to MEDSTAR St. Mary’s Hospital in critical condition. Once the victim was stabilized, she was transported to a regional trauma center for further treatment and remains in critical condition.
Information was obtained which led detectives to a possible suspect. A 31 year old male suspect was subsequently located and apprehended at a relative’s home in Calvert County, Maryland.
Detectives from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division are actively investigating this case. More details will be released as they are developed.
