Update:

Authorities in Charles County reported this evening that the small child struck by a vehicle in Waldorf Sunday afternoon, June 15 has died.

According to information provided by Charles County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Diane Richardson, the boy was 1-year-old, not 2 as previously reported. The accident was reported around 4 p.m. and occurred in the 10000 block of Lyles Place in Waldorf.

Family members transported the child to a nearby firehouse where personnel provided immediate care. Paramedics transported the child to Charles Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Office Traffic Operations Unit is investigating. The child was struck on a private roadway. No further details at this time.

According to Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Office Sheriffโ€™s Office spokeswoman Diane Richardson, the accident happened around 4 p.m. on Lyles Place. The childโ€™s family transported him to a fire station and paramedics subsequently transported him to Charles Regional Medical Center.

Richardson said the boy is in critical condition. The sheriffโ€™s officeโ€™s Traffic Operations Division is handling the investigation.
