Update from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office on 12/4/14 at 10:53 a.m.:

On December 4th at approximately 8:00 AM, Emergency Medical Services EMS responded to the construction site of the new Captain Walter Francis Duke Elementary School located on Hayden Farm Lane for a subject with a head injury.

On arrival, emergency responders discovered a male subject suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

EMS began life saving efforts and police were immediately dispatched to the scene. The subject was subsequently transported to an area hospital by Maryland State Police helicopter.

Detectives from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, Criminal Investigations Division, responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

Additional information will be released as it is developed.

Update from the St. Mary’s Count Sheriff’s Office on 12/4/14 at 10:00 a.m.:

Subject has been flown out by Msp helocopter. Pio has left the scene. Police will be on the scene of construction site for a while longer.

At 8:09 a.m. units responded to a reported self-inflicted gunshot wound at the construction site of the new Elementary school, Captain Walter Francis Duke Elementary on Hayden Farm Ln in Leonardtown.

According to sources the subject is a 50-year-old male and is currently being flown out by Trooper 7 to a shock trauma center.
