SCOTLAND, Md. — An adult and a teen were airlifted to a regional burn center and four people were displaced following a house fire early Wednesday morning in Scotland, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The fire was reported at 7:04 a.m. on March 25, 2026, in the 14000 block of MacArthur Drive. Multiple 911 callers reported smoke coming from a single-story home with possible occupants inside. Within minutes, crews learned two individuals had escaped but suffered significant burn injuries after jumping from a window to escape the flames.
Firefighters from Ridge Volunteer Fire Department, along with Bay District stations and surrounding agencies, arrived to find smoke showing from multiple sides of the home. Crews quickly initiated an interior attack while establishing a water supply and ventilating the structure to release heat and smoke. The fire was brought under control in approximately 30 minutes.
Due to the severity of the injuries, Maryland State Police Trooper 7 and Trooper 2 responded, with a landing zone established at a nearby school. Both patients were transported to the landing zone and flown to the Bayview Burn Center for treatment.
A primary search confirmed no other occupants remained inside. Fire officials said the blaze originated in the living room and was discovered by an occupant. While the cause remains under investigation, it is not considered suspicious.
Damage to the home is estimated at $175,000, with an additional $50,000 in contents lost. Four occupants were displaced and are being assisted by family and friends.
As the family begins to recover, members of the community have started rallying around them. A fundraiser has been created to help with immediate needs. “In a matter of moments, everything they owned was gone,” the organizer wrote, noting the family is facing urgent needs including housing, clothing and medical care.
