Verbal altercation at high school escalates, leads to arrest

Great Mills, MD – On November 18th, Deputy C. Hartzell responded to a classroom at Great Mills High School, for the report of a fight.

The suspect,  DaVayus Alex Barnes, age 19, of Great Mills, was involved a verbal altercation with another student during class, which escalated to a physical fight. Barnes struck the other student several times, which hindered the teacher from instructing.

Barnes was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. He was charged with Second Degree Assault and Disturbing Activites at School.
