Lexington Park, MD— On May 21, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Johnson responded to Point Lookout Road in Lexingtonย Park for the report of an assault.ย 

When Johnson arrived on the scene, he met with the victim who advised, “she was sleeping in her bedroom when her boyfriend, threw water on her,” according to charging documents.ย 

The defendant was identified as Robert W. Wright, 38, of Lexington Park. The victim advised Wright began yelling at her to leave the residence. The victim said that she lived at the home and did not want to leave.ย 

According to charging documents, “Wright then struck victimย on the right side of her face with a closedย fist. The victim complained of intense head pain and requested to be transported to a local hospital.”ย 

Wright took off running from the residence after the incident, Johnson and another officer gave chase. Wright was apprehended a short time later in Garrett Trailer Park.

Wright claimed he and the victim got into an argument at the residence earlier that morning. Wright also stated, “after the argument he went to sleep, and did not assaultย the victim at any point during the argument,” according to charging documents.

Wright was arrested and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center, where he was charged with second-degree assault.

Wright has a tentatively scheduled court hearing July 7 in District Court. Wright faces a maximum jailย sentence of 10 years and/or a maximum fine of $2,500.ย
