Victim Defends Himself in Knife Attack with Lug Wrench

On Nov. 22, Deputy Michael Boyer responded to a disturbance at a residence in Leonardtown. 

Deputy Boyer’s investigation determined John Odell Barnes, 41 of Great Mills, became involved in an argument with a relative.  During the argument, John Barnes retrieved a knife from the kitchen and approached the victim who retrieved a lug wrench to defend himself. 

Barnes was arrested, charged with First-Degree Assault and released to the custody of the St. Mary’s County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner.
