Walden Sierra, a non-profit organization in Southern Maryland, opened a new center in Waldorf on Thursday morning.ย The Waldorf centerโ€™s primary function will be for substance abuse counseling.ย After some comments from Charles County Chamber of Commerce Secretary Carlos Montague, the ribbon was cut to mark the grand opening of the center.

โ€œWaldorf provides a number of behavioral health services,โ€ Clinical Director Gary Lynch, M.A., LCADC, said.ย โ€œThis clinic here will provide services that have substance abuse problems.ย This fall, weโ€™ll be working toward both substance abuse and behavioral health.ย Walden already serves a lot of residents in Charles County through our residential programs.ย We served 150 clients from Charles County last year in our residential programs.ย Not only will this center serve people who havenโ€™t come from the community but it will also serve as a re-entry for some of our people who are leaving residential.โ€
Lynch said Walden gets grant money from the state, money from fee-for-service and through insurance and Medicaid, so low-income folks on Medicaid can get service.
