WHITE PLAINS, Md. — A Waldorf man has been issued a summons after authorities say he stole a water heater and multiple crab steam pots from a White Plains seafood restaurant before the business opened.
David Aloyious Baker, 61, of Waldorf, is charged with felony theft of $1,500 to under $25,000 in Charles County District Court.
According to charging documents, the theft happened around 9:30 a.m. on May 15, 2026, at Captain Mo’s Seafood on Crain Highway in White Plains. Authorities allege Baker arrived in a white pickup truck, went to the rear of the property and took several items before employees were there.
The stolen property included a water heater valued at about $500 and eight crab steam pots valued at $250 each, bringing the total reported loss to approximately $2,500, according to the application for charges.
Investigators said surveillance footage showed the suspect vehicle at the business. Police later identified Baker after reviewing vehicle information, local law enforcement records and a pawn ticket connected to Potomac Metals, according to court documents.
Charging documents state that Baker was contacted by phone on May 16. Before being questioned about the theft, police said Baker admitted taking the water heater and pots from behind Captain Mo’s. He reportedly told an officer he was in the area looking for scrap metal to sell.
A pawn ticket later reviewed by investigators allegedly showed Baker at Potomac Metals with several large metal pots and what appeared to be a large metal cylinder in the bed of a white pickup truck. Investigators wrote that the items resembled the stolen water heater and pots.
A summons was issued for Baker on May 19, 2026.
A preliminary inquiry hearing is set for July 6, 2026, in Charles District Court.
