Glen Burnie Man Charged After Loaded Pistol, Knives Found During Dunkirk Traffic Stop

DUNKIRK, Md. — A Glen Burnie man has been charged after Maryland State Police alleged a traffic stop in Dunkirk led to the discovery of a loaded pistol, multiple knives, a baseball bat and two hammers inside a vehicle.

Dwayne Edward Burton II, 28, of Glen Burnie, is charged with two counts of concealing a dangerous weapon, according to charging documents.

The case stems from a May 25, 2026, traffic stop near Route 260 and Route 4 in Dunkirk. According to the statement of probable cause, a Maryland State Police trooper was traveling eastbound on Route 260 around 1:41 a.m. when he observed a white Dodge Charger parked in the lot of a liquor store on West Chesapeake Beach Road with no front license plate attached.

The trooper documented that all doors of the vehicle were open and the driver and passengers were outside the vehicle before the car exited the parking lot onto Route 260.

As the Dodge Charger traveled westbound, the trooper reported that the vehicle crossed over the right shoulder by about one tire length for approximately two seconds before returning to the lane.

The trooper initiated a traffic stop on Northbound Route 4 near Route 260. Upon contact with Burton, who was identified as the driver, the trooper observed what appeared to be a loaded rifle near the driver’s right foot on the front driver-side floorboard, according to charging documents.

Burton only displayed his license when the trooper requested his license and registration, charging documents allege. The trooper also documented that Burton appeared nervous and that his hands were shaking while on the steering wheel.

After Burton exited the vehicle, the trooper reported seeing what appeared to be a loaded pistol stuck between the seat and the B-pillar of the vehicle.

Charging documents allege Burton had a knife in a mini multicolored bag he was carrying. The bag was removed from his person and placed inside the vehicle.

The trooper also reported locating several additional knives in different areas of the vehicle, a baseball bat lodged between the front passenger seat and center console, another bat between the front passenger floorboard and B-pillar, and two hammers on the front driver-side floorboard.

Burton was placed under arrest at 2:27 a.m. for concealing deadly weapons. After being advised of his Miranda rights, Burton voluntarily made a statement that the weapons in the vehicle belonged to him and were used for protection, according to charging documents.

Burton was released on recognizance on May 25, 2026.

A trial is scheduled for June 30, 2026, at Calvert District Court in Prince Frederick.
