WALDORF, Md. — A Waldorf man was charged after a loss prevention officer reported he stole tools from the Home Depot in Waldorf, according to charging documents.
Matthew Scott Quiles, 40, of Waldorf, is charged with theft of $100 to under $1,500.
The charge stems from an incident reported around 11:41 a.m. May 25, 2026, at the Home Depot at 12050 Jefferson Farm Place in Waldorf.
Charles County sheriff’s officer responded to the store for a shoplifter in custody. When the officer arrived, he spoke with a loss prevention officer who reported that Quiles had taken several tools from the store, concealed the items in his jacket and walked out without making proper payment.
The loss prevention officer stopped Quiles while he was walking on the sidewalk and brought him to the store’s loss prevention office, where the stolen items were recovered.
Quiles was positively identified through his own admission with his Social Security number, and investigators confirmed the information through the Charles County local database using a photo and Social Security number confirmation.
The total value of the stolen items was listed as $127.76, according to the charging document.
Quiles was ordered held without bond on May 25. A bail review hearing was held May 26 before Judge Mimi Cooper in Charles District Court, where Quiles remained held without bond.
A status hearing is set for June 30, 2026, in Charles District Court.
