Produced by Lisa Gregory and hosted by The Newtowne Players at the Three Notch Theatre in Lexington Park, Watermelon Inc. presents the Second Annual Watermelon One-Act Play Festival June 7 โ€“ 8. This festival of original plays features three Saturday adjudication sessions at 11 a.m., 3 p.m., and 7 p.m. followed by the Sunday June 8 Finals and Awards Ceremony to be held at 2 p.m.

Tickets will be sold at the door (cash or check, with ID โ€“ no credit cards) and are priced at $12 per adjudication session ($10 for students and seniors), $20 for the Finals ($15 for students and seniors) and includes food and beverages. You may also purchase a $50 Festival Pass which is good for both days ($45 for students and seniors).

The plays scheduled for the 11 a.m. time slot on Saturday are: For King and Cabbage by R. DaSilva, A Carbuncle in the Abyss by R. DaSilva, Therapy by Cindy Mendicino, and True Colors by Kim Bessler. The 3 p.m. session includes Monteggia Fracture by Jack Wibbe, and The Nature of Man by Jeremy Hunter. Life On Mars by Trish Cole and Threshold by Kevin Lebling are scheduled for the 7 p.m. session.

ย Watermelon, Inc. is a local non-profit organization dedicated to the theater arts and to providing a nurturing environment for original works, and is presenting its Second Annual Watermelon One-Act Festival (WOAF) this year. The 2014 WOAF boasts eight original one-act plays written by Maryland playwrights who will compete for awards worth over $1,000. Two to four plays will be performed and adjudicated by qualified professionals during each of three performance sessions on June 7; the top-scoring plays will then go on to compete in the Finals Round on June 8; the winning script, director, ensemble, and performers will receive awards during the Ceremony following the Finals. During each Saturday session and the Sunday Finals, audience members have the opportunity to vote for their favorite play to determine the โ€œWild Cardโ€ finalist and the Audience Choice Award.
