On Oct. 17, at 8:55 p.m., members of the Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Office Auto Theft Unit were conducting an auto theft detail in Waldorf when they received a positive hit on the Tag Reader โ€” a device that scans registration plates and notifies officers of stolen tags.

The vehicle, a 2002 Ford Expedition, was at a gas station on St. Thomas Drive in Waldorf.

Officers initiated a traffic stop and arrested the driver, Erin Lyles, 30 of Washington, D.C.

She was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and theft over $500.

The vehicle had been reported stolen last week from an address in New Jersey. Officer A. Schwab made the arrest.ย
