WALDORF, Md. – On January 26 at approximately 11:10 p.m., Anne Arundel County Police notified the Charles County Sheriff’s Office they were with a woman who reported she had been kidnapped in Charles County earlier in the evening.
Detectives from the CCSO coordinated with the Anne Arundel police and a preliminary investigation showed the victim was at the Exxon gas station at 3690 Crain Highway in Waldorf shortly after 9 p.m., when the suspect approached, implied he had a gun, and demanded she drive him to another area, away from the gas station.
As the victim was driving, the suspect sexually assaulted her. The suspect directed the victim to drive to a convenience store in Calvert County where he exited the car.
The victim was able to escape and fled the area in her car. She drove to a store in Anne Arundel County where she made contact with Anne Arundel County Police.
CCSO detectives obtained a description of the suspect and pursued leads. Within 24 hours, investigators determined the suspect was the same person responsible for an attempted robbery at the Waldorf Target earlier in the evening, during which he threatened several employees.
Through further investigation, detectives were able to positively identify the suspect.
He was located and arrested on January 27 wearing the same clothes he wore during the robbery and kidnapping.
Robert Alonzo Robinson, 53, of Upper Marlboro, was charged with robbery, carjacking, armed carjacking, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, kidnapping, and 4th degree sex offense.
On January 30, a judge ordered Robinson be held without bond at the Charles County Detention Center.

CCWAM, gun owners are far more likely to shoot themselves or a family member than to one day heroically defend themselves wielding a firearm. That’s a statistical fact. Also, gun owners are far, far more likely to get their firearm taken by a child and used tragically, or stolen, which results in the very scenario where you need to have a firearm, training and a tremendous amount of luck to successfully defend yourself. A gun would not have helped this poor person, and loose gun laws and policy are the cause of this situation. Pull your head out.
Which is why people who have a carry permits are trained and put the hours in for safety and know that the firearm should locked away from anyone unless needed a code or fingerprint. A fire arm would have deterred the person especially if she had it on her. You think throwing your feelings and thoughts at criminals are going to stop them from hurting you. At least you have a defense instead of being defenseless. Also this from a man saying guns won’t help you. Try being a woman in this day and age with children.
It would be nice if she had the wherewithal the buy a handgun, permit, have time for training, practice and have a safe place to keep it away from kids, etc., but it is a big ask. It’s fine for you and me, but we have to agree that it’s a big responsibility, and in the event that you have to pull and shoot, you pray that your bys and throughs don’t hit somebody down range. It’s a lot. I’m not against responsible ownership and carry, but you and I know that when you carry, you carry a huge responsibility, and it might be too much for everybody. That’s all I’m saying.
