California, MD— On March 25, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Deputy D. Potter responded to Walmart at Miramar Way in California, MD for a report of an attempted theft by several suspects.

One of the suspects was positively identified as Shailita S. Holt, 20, of Lexington Park. Holt and two others proceeded to the self-checkout lines and began to ring up the items. Several of the items were scanned and placed into shopping bags. According to charging documents, “several more items were never scanned but put directly from the shopping cart into shopping bags by Holt.” 

A short time later Holt and the other suspects attempted to leave the store with the items belonging to the victim (Walmart) to include several various items totaling $209.31. The manager of the store stopped to check the items against the receipt, “while the manager was checking the receipt, the three defendants ran from the store,” according to charging documents. 

Holt has been charged with theft less than $1,000, at this time Holt does not have a scheduled court date at the St. Mary’s County District Court. Holt faces a maximum jail sentence of one year and six months and/or a maximum fine of $500. At this time the criminal proceedings for the co-defendants are unknown.
