DRUM POINT, Md. — Calvert County emergency crews responded Saturday afternoon to a report of two people in distress on a paddle board in the Patuxent River as wind conditions pushed them toward the Chesapeake Bay.
The 911 call was received at 3:50 p.m. on May 30. A second‑party caller reported that a daughter and her friend were unable to return to shore and were being pushed farther out on the bay by the wind. The pair were described as about halfway across the bay, drifting toward Drum Point, and repeatedly falling off the board. Updated information indicated both individuals were in the water and possibly holding onto the paddle board.
The incident was classified under a Watercraft Welfare Check (Coastal). The call was transferred to the U.S. Coast Guard for coastal response coordination.
Calvert County units were dispatched with mutual‑aid resources from the surrounding area.
No injuries were reported at the time of dispatch. Additional updates will be provided as information becomes available.
