Women's Basketball Wraps Up Season In Volt Division Semifinals

HARRISBURG, Pa. – The St. Mary’s College of Maryland Women’s Basketball Team (14-12) tipped off the Volt Division Semifinals in the United East Conference Women’s Basketball tournament with a match up with the Penn State Harrisburg Nittany Lions (16-11). The Seahawks concluded their season, falling to the Nittany Lions 59-44.

How It Happened

  • Tramarie Mobray started the game off fast, contributing seven of the Seahawks’ nine first-quarter points. Amira Whitaker added a jump shot for St. Mary’s as they trailed 9-15 after the opening 10 minutes. 
  • Melanie Aguilar got the scoring going for St. Mary’s with a long two-pointer in the opening minutes. Harrisburg would extend their lead to 10 before Olivia Liszt and Amira Whitaker knocked down back-to-back shots to get the Seahawks back to within five. St. Mary’s would get into the bonus at the end of the half and connected on a couple of free throws. The Seahawks Trailed the Nittany Lions 25-18 at the half.
  • The Nittany Lions struck first in the new half, but Oliva Liszt and Jamie Velandria scored on back-to-back possessions to cut the Nittany Lion lead back down to five. Olivia Hedrick scored one more basket for the Seahawks in the quarter. St. Mary’s trailed 27-40 going into the final 10 minutes of action.
  • Amira Whitaker scored two three-pointers to start the final quarter of play. Rayna Miller also added a layup and the Seahawks cut the Nittany Lion lead to just 12. Unfortunately for the Seahawks, Harrisburg would go on a run in the middle of the quarter to extend their lead to 20. The Seahawks fought until the end but ended up dropping the contest 59-44.
