The annual St. Mary’s College of Maryland World Carnival comes to town Saturday, April 18, from noon to 5 p.m., bringing food and fun for the whole family. Admission is free and the event is open to the public. The activities will take place on the college’s admissions field on Fisher Road off Route 5. This year’s carnival will feature an inflatable obstacle course, tie-dying activities, henna tattooing, caricature drawing, and exciting demonstrations from the chemistry department. Local vendors will serve roasted nuts, gyros, popcorn, as well as a variety of multicultural foods. SMCM club performances by the Dance Club, Take 1 Improv, the Gospel Choir, the Step Team, and the co-ed a capella group Interchorus will take place throughout the day.
World Carnival, the College’s largest student-organized event, has become an important tradition to the St. Mary’s community and is the best-attended event on the College campus. Its purpose is to celebrate multiculturalism and diversity through campus bands, visiting artists, and a variety of local food and craft vendors.
