St. Mary’s County is offering two fantastic firework displays for this fourth.

The River Concert Series will feature music and fireworks overlooking the river on Friday night, starting at 7:00 p.m., at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. Internationally renowned jazz vocalist Hilary Kole will perform selections from the American Songbook by George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, and others. Freedom Fest 2008 is happening Saturday, July 5, from 5:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds. The fairgrounds are localed at 42455 Fairgrounds Road in Leonardtown. The St. Mary’s County Board of Commissioners and the Department of Recreation, Parks and Community Services invite the public to enjoy an evening of family fun and entertainment. Freedom Fest is an alcohol and drug free event held annually.

Calvert County is offering three events in celebration of July 4.

There will be fireworks displays on Thursday, July 3, at both Chesapeake Beach and North Beach.

Fireworks will be discharged in front of the Rod-n-Reel in Chesapeake Beach at dusk. Audiences should plan to arrive between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. for music, food and games.

North Beach is offering a summer concert followed by fireworks starting at 6:30 p.m. on the pavilion at 5th Street and Bay Avenue. Attendees should plan to bring a blanket to watch fireworks over the water.

The Solomons Business Association invites the citizens of Calvert County to sit back and enjoy fireworks Friday night over Solomons Island. Fireworks will begin at dusk. On land or by boat, the show will be viewable from anywhere on the island.

Charles County is offering four events to celebrate July 4.

La Plata will host the Town of La Plata Independence Day Celebration Friday at the La Plata Train Station. Solid Brass will provide musical entertainment. The Museum and Caboose will be open for tours. There will be activities for children, and free hot dogs, bottled water and ice cream. Indian Head’s Annual 4th of July Celebration will begin at Village Green Park at 3:30 p.m., Friday and last until 10:00 p.m. There will be food, live entertainment and a fireworks display beginning at 9:10 p.m. No pets or alcohol are allowed.
