Your Voice, Our Future: Community Input Sought On St. Mary’s 2050 Plan

LEONARDTOWN, Md. — St. Mary’s County residents are being encouraged to take an active role in shaping the county’s future as the first draft of the St. Mary’s 2050 Plan is now available for public review and comment.

Released by the Department of Land Use & Growth Management, the St. Mary’s 2050 Plan is the county’s long-range Comprehensive Plan and will guide decisions related to land use, growth, preservation, and development through 2050 and beyond. County officials emphasize that community feedback gathered during the 45-day review period will be essential in ensuring the plan reflects the shared priorities, values, and needs of residents.

Residents can review the draft plan online and submit feedback directly through the project webpage, allowing individuals to participate at their own pace and provide comments on key topics and recommendations. For those who prefer in-person review, paper copies of the plan are available at all St. Mary’s County public libraries, senior centers, and the Health Hub.

In addition to online engagement, a series of in-person open houses will be held throughout February, offering opportunities for community members to ask questions, learn more about the draft plan, and share input directly with the project team. Additional engagement opportunities are expected to continue into March.

All comments submitted during the review period, both online and in person, will be considered as the plan moves toward a final draft. The updated plan is scheduled for review by the Planning Commission in late spring, followed by consideration by the Commissioners of St. Mary’s County this summer.

Community participation will play a key role in shaping the final St. Mary’s 2050 Plan, ensuring it reflects the values, priorities, and long-term vision of those who live and work in the county. Residents are encouraged to review the draft plan, share their perspectives, and take part in upcoming engagement opportunities to help guide St. Mary’s County’s growth and preservation for generations to come. County officials stress that public participation is a critical component of creating a comprehensive plan that supports economic vitality, environmental stewardship, and quality of life for current and future generations.

To review the draft St. Mary’s 2050 Plan, submit feedback, and stay informed about upcoming engagement opportunities, residents can visit the county’s official project webpage.
