The Charles County Sheriffโs Office and Charles County Crime Solvers are asking the public for help in the investigation of the hit-and-run death of a 15-year-old girl three years ago in Waldorf.
Amy Christine Fortuna of Temple Hills and a 15-year-old Mechanicsville girl were walking in the 2200 block of northbound Old Washington Road near the Master Suites Hotel on Feb. 7 at 11:34 p.m. A northbound truck traveling at a high rate of speed struck Fortuna and fled the scene toward Crain Highway without stopping.
A Maryland State Police helicopter flew Fortuna to the MedStar trauma unit at Washington Hospital Center. She was pronounced dead Feb. 8 at 8:51 p.m. Her friend was not injured.
The truck that hit Fortuna is described as a 1987-1991 Ford 4×4. Possible models include the F150, F250 and Bronco. It is a dark color, possibly black or blue, and has a white or light-colored cap. It sustained damage to the grill and the passenger side headlight and was missing its side mirror.
Major Crimes Unit detectives are looking for anyone who may have information valuable to the investigation, including anyone who may have fixed or helped fix the suspectโs truck. The Sheriffโs Office has released photographs of similar trucks. The photographs are available on the Sheriffโs Officeโs Web site at www.ccso.us.
Charles County Crime Solvers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information about this investigation that leads to an arrest or indictment.
