LUSBY, Md. – On August 31, 2024, officers from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the area of Chestnut Drive in Lusby, Maryland, after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a fight. Neighbors reported hearing a man shouting, “Someone is trying to kill me,” prompting the emergency response. Upon arrival, Corporal Bowlan and other deputies made contact with Rayshaun Marrik Kelley, who had been involved in a dispute with a family member.
Despite repeated loud outbursts, Kelley refused medical assistance or to provide any details about the altercation. As officers attempted to assess the situation, Kelley continued to make loud and disruptive statements. His behavior prompted concerns when a neighbor was seen entering his own house through a window, possibly attempting to avoid the escalating situation.
Kelley, who was visibly intoxicated, ignored the officers’ warnings and continued to shout, act disorderly, and cause a public disturbance. After multiple attempts to de-escalate the situation, deputies placed Kelley under arrest for disorderly conduct, public intoxication, and disturbing the peace.
Kelley was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center where he was charged with disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, affray (engaging in a public fight), and public intoxication. All events occurred in Calvert County, Maryland.

Y’all should really read up on ANGER. It is not something you can control in certain situations. ANGER is a normal thing. Just because someone says to calm down or stop yelling doesn’t mean they can. I’m so tired of the police charging folks with disorderly because they have natural emotions. Why don’t you tru and give them a min in a quiet space or let them stand to the side for a bit and use coping tools. Everyone is able to cope and manage ANGER, but never in the heat of the moment. It is natural to have a FIGHT or FLIGHT response. The police just want you to have the FLIGHT response so you obey what they say like an animal…but you are human and you are allowed to express yourself. You should never suppress your ANGER or you will have a meltdown.
I hope those with some mental issues and those without don’t take your advice in the last sentence of your comment.
Bad advise with that last sentence ,It will get you or someone else killed ..
That is not true. While experiencing emotions is perfectly fine and normal, it’s your ACTIONS and REACTIONS that you can control. I have a lot of empathy for people who have undergone distressing and traumatizing things in their lives, but it is no excuse to disturb the peace and endanger others. They need to do the work. We need better access to mental health care and addiction treatment in this country so people can have help learning these skills. I hope this person can get the help he truly needs, because while he doesn’t seem explicitly dangerous by what’s described in this article, people usually don’t know how something will escalate until it’s too late.
Baloney. If you are THAT out of control, you need to be arrested. The public doesn’t need to be subjected to your drunken rants and loud obnoxious behavior. Thank you to the Calvert Co. Sheriff’s Deputies for dealing with that disturbed person in a professional manner.
