PASADENA, Md. — An early morning house fire in Pasadena has resulted in the first fire death of the year in Anne Arundel County.
Emergency personnel were alerted by a neighbor to the structure fire on Kintop Road near Eleanore Drive at approximately 3:15 a.m. on Friday, March 1, 2024.
Upon arrival, crews found a single-family home fully engulfed in flames with one male occupant trapped. Around 48 firefighters responded to the scene, bringing the fire under control in less than 30 minutes while rescuing the trapped victim.
Two occupants, an adult male and an adult female, were transported to Baltimore Washington Medical Center. The male, identified as Chen Fa Lu, age 72, was critically injured and succumbed to his injuries over the weekend.
The female occupant was able to escape the home on her own and was transported with non-life threatening injuries.
One Fire Lieutenant also sustained minor burns and was treated at an area hospital.

The fire has resulted in the displacement of the remaining occupant, and the Anne Arundel County Crisis Responses Team and the American Red Cross are providing assistance.
Agencies that responded to the scene include the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) Fire & Rescue Department, Anne Arundel County Crisis Response, the American Red Cross, Anne Arundel County Police Department, and Baltimore Gas and Electric.
The Anne Arundel County Fire/Arson and Explosives Unit is currently investigating the cause of the fire, which appears to have originated in the basement due to a faulty electric issue. The house’s smoke alarm was operational and activated during the incident.
We will continue to provide updates as they become available.

As we approach daylight saving time this weekend, residents are reminded to check their smoke alarms and establish a home escape plan.
