Two Charged After Facebook Marketplace Phone Sale Turns Into Robbery At Lexington Park Wawa

LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — Two Lexington Park men were charged after deputies reported a Facebook Marketplace meetup for an iPhone sale turned into a robbery outside a Wawa in Lexington Park.

Raymond Andrew Thomas, 19, of Lexington Park, was charged with robbery, second-degree assault and theft from $100 to under $1,500.

Zemar David Tyshon Batts, 21, of Lexington Park, was charged with robbery.

The charges stem from an incident reported at approximately 11:15 p.m. on July 15, 2026, at the Wawa located at 22530 Three Notch Road in Lexington Park.

Charging documents state the victim told deputies he had agreed to meet Thomas at the Wawa to buy an iPhone for $300. The victim showed deputies Facebook Marketplace messages about the planned transaction.

The victim reported he had the money in ten $20 bills and one $100 bill. Charging documents state Thomas asked to see the money to make sure the victim had the correct amount.

The victim reported Thomas briefly walked toward the rear of the Wawa, returned and asked to see the money again. When the victim showed the money a second time, Thomas allegedly grabbed it.

Charging documents state the victim reported he was pushed back into his car and tried to grab Thomas to stop him from leaving.

A gold 2008 Honda Civic then pulled up next to them, and Thomas allegedly got into the vehicle. The victim reported the vehicle began driving away and drove over his foot before leaving the Wawa parking lot northbound on Route 235.

A witness reported seeing the incident and described the suspect as wearing a black shirt, black shoes, black shorts or pants and carrying a black handbag.

Deputies later located a vehicle matching the description in the area of FDR Boulevard and Meath Road. A traffic stop was conducted, and Batts was identified as the driver. Thomas was also found inside the vehicle, charging documents state.

Deputies reported finding a black Louis Vuitton bag inside the vehicle containing $343, including one $100 bill, twelve $20 bills and three $1 bills.

Thomas was advised of his rights and initially declined to answer questions, charging documents state. He was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center.

At the detention center, correctional staff later located $200 hidden on Thomas during a strip search, charging documents state. The money was reportedly in ten $20 bills.

Thomas later agreed to speak with a deputy and stated he had made a decision he knew he was going to regret, according to charging documents. Investigators reported Thomas said he was trying to make quick money and was in financial hardship. He also allegedly stated the $200 found on him was from the incident and that he did not know where the $100 bill went.

Charging documents in Batts’ case state Batts initially declined to answer questions at the scene. While at the detention center, Batts later agreed to speak with deputies and reported he did not know Thomas before the incident.

Batts told deputies he was at Wawa before Thomas arrived and saw Thomas and the victim get into a physical altercation, charging documents state. Batts reported he drove up next to Thomas, told him to calm down and separate from the victim, then allowed Thomas to get into his car and left the area.

Investigators charged Batts with robbery, writing that he was considered an accessory to the crime.

Thomas was initially held without bond on July 16 before being released on recognizance following a July 17 bond review before Judge John P. Morrissey. A preliminary hearing for Thomas is set for Aug. 10, 2026, in St. Mary’s County District Court.
