LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — A serious Fourth of July crash in Lexington Park resulted in four injuries—including one person who had to be extricated and airlifted to a trauma center—according to emergency response.
The head-on collision occurred just before 10:22 p.m. near the intersection of Mattapany Road and Saint James Church Road, close to St. James Deli and Spirits. Dispatch notes indicate that two vehicles were involved and that the driver of one vehicle, described as a red car, was trapped and required extrication.
Command staff quickly requested a helicopter medevac, and Spring Ridge Middle School was designated as the landing zone. At least one other patient—a 20-year-old woman—was evaluated at the scene, and ultimately, a total of four patients were reported. Three were flown to regional trauma centers via medevac, while one was transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital.”
Emergency crews called for an additional BLS ambulance to manage the patient load. MedStar Trauma Center was placed on standby, and crews worked for an extended period to complete the extrication and manage the landing zone operation.
The condition of the injured parties has not been disclosed. It is also unclear if weather, speed, or impairment were contributing factors. The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

I have tried numerous times to have a red light, round about, street light, anything there with the comment from the commissioners that their has not been enough “Deaths” to do anything. These road south of the base are dangerous.
I pray that everyone is ok.
Roundabouts are not prohibitively expensive; hopefully, this latest accident will spur the county commissioners to take action for the good of the citizenry they are elected to serve.
