WALDORF, Md. — A Washington, D.C., woman is facing felony charges in Charles County after authorities say she unlawfully took a vehicle from a Waldorf dealership and failed to return it following a fraudulent transaction.
Myteka Shajuan Gilchrist, 34, of Washington, D.C., has been charged with unlawful taking of a motor vehicle and theft between $25,000 and under $100,000, according to court documents.
Charging documents state the incident occurred on November 22, 2024, at Sheehy Nissan of Waldorf, located on Crain Highway. Investigators allege Gilchrist took possession of a 2023 Nissan Altima as part of a retail installment sales contract that was contingent on financing approval.
Authorities later determined the financing application included a fraudulent Social Security number, leading to the rejection of the loan. Despite the denial, Gilchrist allegedly failed to return the vehicle and remained in unauthorized possession of it.
Court records indicate the dealership made multiple demands for the return of the vehicle, which were not fulfilled. The outstanding balance tied to the transaction was listed at $29,948.12.
A criminal summons was issued on April 3, 2026, and the case has been formally filed in the District Court for Charles County.
A preliminary inquiry hearing is scheduled for May 18, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. in Charles County District Court.
