ANNAPOLIS, Md. — An Annapolis man initially investigated for illegal deer hunting is now facing more than 60 felony charges after investigators uncovered a large number of suspected explosive devices at his home following a months-long investigation.
The case began as a Maryland Natural Resources Police investigation into illegal nighttime hunting, including an incident in which a residence was struck by gunfire, officials said.
On April 14, 2026, members of the Maryland Natural Resources Police Tactical Response Team executed a search warrant at a residence in the 1200 block of Blackwalnut Lane in Annapolis. Investigators discovered numerous suspected explosive devices and related materials inside the home.

The Anne Arundel County Fire Department’s Fire/Arson & Explosives Investigative Bureau, along with the FBI, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Anne Arundel County Police Department, and the Annapolis Fire Department, responded to assist with the investigation.
The search led to the arrest of Lee Scott Wygal Ralston, 37, of Annapolis, who faces dozens of felony charges tied to destructive devices.
Investigators recovered a significant number of suspected explosive devices and materials used to construct them from the residence. The devices varied in size and composition, with some containing BBs, others equipped for remote detonation, and some utilizing homemade flash powder, according to charging documents.
Ralston has been charged with 32 counts of manufacturing a destructive device and 32 counts of possession of a destructive device, according to the fire marshal’s office. Court records show at least 64 felony charges were filed in connection with the case.
Authorities also seized numerous weapons, optics, suppressors, and ammunition believed to have been used in the illegal harvesting of deer in surrounding areas during February and March.
Additional criminal and natural resources charges remain pending as the investigation continues.
Ralston is currently being held without bond following a bail review hearing before Judge Laura M. Robinson in District Court.
A preliminary hearing is set for May 13, 2026, in Annapolis District Court.
Officials said the case highlights the importance of coordination between local, state, and federal agencies in addressing potentially dangerous situations.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact investigators at 410-260-8888 or the Anne Arundel County Fire Department’s Arson/Explosives tip line.
