Richard Joseph "Batman" Battenfield

Richard Joseph “Batman” Battenfield, 66, of Hollywood, Maryland, passed away on May 17, 2026. Born on May 20, 1959, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Joseph Richard Battenfield and Florence Marie Hammond (Battenfield).

Richard was a retired lineman for Verizon, formerly Bell Atlantic where he serviced various parts of Maryland.

Outside of work, he had a deep love for all things automotive- especially motorcycles. He owned many Harley Davidsons throughout his life and enjoyed the freedom and camaraderie that came with riding. As a former member of A.B.A.T.E. and the Red Knights motorcycle club, he partook in several community benefit fundraisers and events.

He also proudly served his community through EMS as a volunteer for more than 25 years – assisting with cadet programs, various board member duties, and mentorships while earning several accolades throughout his service.

Known affectionately as “Batman” by family and friends, Richard will be remembered for his generous spirit, dedication to helping others, and love for his family and friends.

Richard is survived by his children, Kristina Marie Wood of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Branddie Layne Dean of King George, Virginia; his beloved grandchildren, Haillie, Michael, and Riley; and his siblings, Robert William Battenfield, Patricia Ann Battenfield, and Linda Marie King, along with his nieces and nephews and their children.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Richard Battenfield, and his mother, Florence Marie Hammond (Battenfield).

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. A funeral service will begin at 12:00 p.m. with Chaplain George Kennett.
