Resale Rodeo Brings Affordable Fashion To Southern Maryland

MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — What started as a shared passion for fashion, thrifting and uncovering hidden treasures is about to become Southern Maryland’s newest shopping destination.

Resale Rodeo, an elevated resale boutique opening June 28 in Mechanicsville, aims to blend affordable fashion, carefully curated clothing and Western-inspired charm into an experience its owners hope feels more like visiting friends than shopping at a traditional thrift store.

Business partners Brittany Owens and Brittany Kontra say the idea grew from a desire to create the type of store they wished already existed in the community.

“Resale Rodeo came from our shared love of quality fashion, the thrill of thrifting, and finding great pieces at affordable prices,” the owners said in an interview with The BayNet. “We both saw a need locally for a place where people could shop trendy, quality clothing without spending boutique prices.”

Located at 29025 Three Notch Road, Unit B, the boutique will officially open its doors Sunday, June 28, from noon to 6 p.m.

Creating Something Different

The owners said their goal extends beyond simply opening another resale store.

“We wanted to create something fun, welcoming and different — more than just a store,” they said. “For us, it is much more than opening another resale store. We wanted to create the kind of place that we wish existed.”

Mechanicsville proved to be the ideal location.

“Mechanicsville felt like the perfect place because it is a growing community with lots of families and small-business supporters,” they said. “We wanted to bring something new to the area while creating a convenient local place for people to shop resale, boutique items, accessories and more.”

Inside the store, shoppers will find carefully selected clothing, accessories, handbags, shoes and Western-inspired pieces rather than traditional thrift store racks filled with unsorted donations.

“Every piece in our store is carefully hand-selected for quality, style, condition and value,” the owners said. “We focus on brands people love, timeless staples, current trends and unique Western-inspired finds.”

Unlike many resale shops, the owners say they intentionally limit inventory to create a more enjoyable shopping experience.

“We curate our inventory so you spend less time searching and more time discovering pieces you’ll actually love,” they said.

Giving Clothing A Second Chance

Resale Rodeo will also offer several ways for community members to participate in the resale process.

Its buyback program allows customers to bring in clean, fashionable items in good condition in exchange for cash or store credit. The boutique is particularly interested in popular brands, denim, shoes, handbags, accessories and boutique-style clothing.

“We want to help clean out closets while giving those items a new life with someone else,” the owners said.

Appointments for the buyback program can be scheduled through the store’s Facebook page.

The business is also introducing a “Rent the Rack” program, allowing customers to rent display space inside the store for two weekends. Participants keep 70% of their sales while the store handles the retail environment.

More Than A Shopping Trip

Owens and Kontra say the atmosphere inside Resale Rodeo may be its most important feature.

“We are hoping that it provides an experience, not just another place to shop,” they said.

The owners recognize that some shoppers may feel intimidated entering a resale store for the first time.

“We want them to feel welcomed and not judged, as walking into a resale store can be intimidating,” they said. “We want customers to feel like they’re among friends.”

The owners also hope every visit feels like a treasure hunt.

“We want them to feel inspired, inspired to step outside of their comfort zone and perhaps try something new,” they said.

They describe their vision as “a warm Western boutique where every visit feels like discovering hidden treasures without sacrificing quality, style or affordability.”

Grand Opening Celebration

The June 28 grand opening will feature giveaways, shopping specials and several local businesses.

Primal Brew Coffee will provide beverages for shoppers, while Cori Reign Creations will bring its children’s boutique trailer to the parking lot.

“We are so thankful for the support that we have already received from the community and cannot wait to officially open our doors,” the owners said.

As the owners prepare to welcome their first customers, they hope the store becomes more than a shopping destination — a place where style, affordability and community come together one treasure at a time.
